A heartwarming letter

In running an airline there will be high points and low points. It gets pretty low when we hit brick walls when dealing with Malaysia Airlines and Malaysia Airports. At moments like these you do wonder if you got what you bargained for. But then along comes a high moment; a smile, a cheer, a thumbs up, or a note thanking us for making someone’s life better and suddenly, your spirit is revived.

Today I experienced a high moment when I got an email from one of our employees. He joined us as a guest service agent when AirAsia first started out, later enrolling into our first cadet pilot programme. He’s chalked up enough flight hours since and will soon embark on a course to earn his fourth gold bar - to become captain.

Despite all that has been unfairly put before us we will still do our bit to change people’s lives; this note is testament to that.

Hi Boss,

I hope that this email finds you in good spirits and good health.

As I compose this email, I can’t help but smile as I reminisce about the transition from where I was to where I am now, and it would not have been possible without you.

When I first joined AirAsia as one of your pioneer customer service agents, I never ever thought I would someday fly an airplane. After a couple of months in customer service, I eventually moved to the purchasing department where I learned so much and I really enjoyed every minute of it. The opportunities for career advancement in AirAsia is beyond doubt above all expectations.

I also want you to know that things are looking up for me, and after years of flying as a co-pilot , I’ve been given the opportunity to excel further. I’m now in the midst of doing my command course, and if all works well, I’d soon be your man on the left side of the cockpit.

I hope you have a great day boss, and do keep up what you do best, which is to continue doing wonders for the company.

Warm regards,

Literally …“Keeping my head in the clouds and feet on the ground” :)

HI TONY ya you sure did a good job, congratulations. it is a pity Malays dont have a good leader, so until today they are perpetuating the problem, youngsters looking up to government/UMNO for guidance, but UMNO itself is devoid of common sense, so how can they lead the younger Malays ?, not like you, your company teaches correct values and create opportunities to achieve it, imagine those youngster working for MAS , how would they learn from their bosses ?

Dear Dato Tony, Can I call you Tony? Hope you don't mind ya. Anyways, I just wanna tell you that you've been an inspiration to me. If I can achieve 50% of what you have achieved, I would certainly die laughing! Thank you for the inspiration and like you said, do the impossible!!! We need more people like you in Malaysia. How about sharing with us how you manage to be where you are now? Have a nice day azwan

Two employees at your Trivandrum India office named Nikhil & Aravind, I believe have some special things to share with you about a customer they recently assisted (Davis) this past week. Since this is public blog I won't go into details, suffice to say it may be worth a call to them. Cheers!

I always believed in miracles...in fact I am a die hard optimist....and I am sure that one of the greatest virtues in life is persistance. We all know how difficult it is to get a foothold on that slippery aviation ladder, I have travelled the length and bredth of India looking for an aviation job, contacted CEO's like Vijay Mallaya etc by E-mail - but it was all to no avail - no one even bothered to reply back. When I had tried all options I moved to Africa - Yes!! Africa, its been 3 countries in Africa now Nigeria, Congo and now Sudan.... Mr. Tony is one of my idols for what he has done and what he stands for, so I thought why not write him a mail (I have had no success in getting replies from CEO's in the past) but with some hesitation I wrote Mr Tony a mail - and you wont beleive it - He Replied back - Yes!!! Mr TONY FERNANDES replied back..... That is all I needed to get my motivation up again recharge my batteries and keep going.... Thank you Mr Tony
